One step at a time—slowly but surely—BMW is developing the knowledge and capacity to deliver a small all-electric car by 2013. In 2009, the company began leasing an electric two-passenger version of the Mini Cooper to about 600 drivers in California, New York, and New Jersey. That program was designed to help BMW learn about real-world driving and charging experiences and make BMW electric car.

Beginning in 2011, a similar number of drivers will lease BMW’s next electric test vehicle, the four-passenger ActiveE—essentially an electric-drive version of the BMW 1-series. This BMW electric car will allow the company to further refine the requirements for a line of large-volume future electric cars, as part of its “Megacity” project. That name, the current working title for its 2013 small electric car, is based on the idea of targeting urban commuters in, well, megacities. Although the ActiveE will cleverly package the power electronics to allow for a decent sized trunk, the Megacity is expected to be a four-seat, three-door hatchback—similar in size to a Honda Fit.

This BMW electric car puts out 125 kilowatts (170 horsepower), a similar amount of power as found on other 1-series Bimmers. The ActiveE’s 32-kilowatt-hour lithium ion battery pack is slightly smaller than the Mini E’s. All of the vehicles apparently are targeting about 100 miles of range on a single charge—although aggressive driving and cold weather conditions have reduced the Mini E’s range by 20 or 30 miles according to multiple reports from drivers. That’s exactly the kind of information that BMW wants to gather from its test drivers. And that’s why this BMW electric car will use liquid cooling to control temperature range, as a strategy to maintain driving range despite cold weather.

BMW appears to be very serious and specific about its electric car program. For example, the company yesterday announced it will use its plant in Lepzig to produce the electric vehicles. The inside story is that BMW executives believe that zero-emission electric cars, and fuel cells for that matter, are a must—that is, if the company is going to meet stricter guidelines for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the world’s major global auto markets.

This articles I get from: http://www.hybridcars.com/news/bmw-hedges-hybrids-partnership-peugeot-29380.html

Is a high-mpg hybrid Mini coming around the corner? Not quite.

BMW and France’s PSA Peugeot Citroën issued a press release this week stating that the two companies, the longtime partners in engine development, would begin developing hybrid technologies together. Bloggers jumped to the conclusion that the move is a sign of strength and shows a renewed commitment about electric drive vehicles. They immediately started guessing about which models would get hybrid or plug-in hybrid drivetrains.

Is it going to be a hybrid 1-series? Will it be a gas-electric Mini? Maybe a hybrid Mini Clubman or even a Mini Countryman crossover SUV with a plug-in hybrid system?

(Actually, the conjecture started in October when BMW made a nearly identical preliminary announcement about the tie-up with PSA.)

It makes for a fun blog post to guess at possibly-could-be-maybe future vehicles, but of course, there’s no real evidence to back up those images in the crystal ball. According to the press release, the new venture, dubbed BMW Peugeot Citroën Electrification, vaguely states that the two companies will work on battery packs, generators, power electronics and chargers, and software for hybrid systems—the generic stuff that all hybrids need. Executives offered banal quotes, talking about “competitive advantages” and “cost structures.”

The announcement is more accurately interpreted as a sign of weakness—a fearful response to falling way behind in the hybrid space. In other words, instead of taking a bold step and making an investment, these companies don’t have to really commit to a full R&D budget and time commitment. After all, BMW is not a big company and would find it challenging to pursue the full range of advanced auto technologies all at the same time.

Have We Seen This Before?

BMW played the same card in 2005, when it glommed on to the hybrid technology project with General Motors and Daimler-Chrysler that yielded the two-mode hybrid system. At the time, Burkhard Goschel, BMW’s head of development, said, “The creation of a shared technology platform for hybrid drives will allow us to more quickly integrate the best technologies on the market.”

Six years later, what did this “quick integration” produce? One vehicle: the $90,000 BMW X6 SUV hybrid. How many of those did BMW sell in 2010? Ahem, 248 units. That puts its 2010 hybrid sales at No. 25 out of the 27 hybrids currently on the market. No. 26 was the $104,000 Lexus LS 600h L, followed by BMW’s other hybrid, the $103,000 BMW Hybrid 7 (using a system not developed in the G.M.-Daimler partnership), in dead last place.

As a point of reference, BMW sold 11,727 of its clean diesel vehicles in the U.S. in 2010— 7,925 units of the BMW X5 SUV and 3,892 units of the BMW 335d The company sells more of its diesel SUVs in month than all its hybrids in a year.

More Hope for EVs

If BMW’s hybrid efforts have been completely lame, at least it’s pure electric program has shown some life. The company has put a lot of effort into the Mini-E and ActiveE test programs—and the electric production model, the Megacity, is slated for 2013. With regard to the “BMW Peugeot Citroën Electrification” joint project, it’s more likely to yield components for that promising EV than a mainstream affordable hybrid Mini or 1-Series.

Most of all, the tie-up with PSA is a cost-saving hedge to keep hybrid development slowly moving forward at BMW, just in case regulations or market forces push the company to get serious about hybrids, rather than continuing to issuing press releases every few years about another joint development project.

2011 BMW 5 Series ActiveHybrid: BMW, as one of the premium automobile manufacturers in the world, not to be outdone in the event at the Shanghai Motor Show in late April. German premium car manufacturer is going to innovate with their new cars, 2011 BMW 5 Series that comes with the hybrid concept.

This is in line with what was reported by Autoexpress on Saturday, April 9th, 2011, which states that these two great companies, BMW and Brilliance China Automotive from, will take advantage of the launch of the 2011 BMW 5 Series.

According to reliable sources, 2011 BMW 5 Series is only available in the Chinese automotive market, so that the interior and exterior conditions adapted to the wishes of the Chinese. This further reinforces the seriousness of the BMW in the market the 2011 BMW 5 Series ActiveHybrid in the most populous countries in the world.

2011 BMW 5 Series ActiveHybrid uses a parallel hybrid engine, where the conventional engine of this car uses the engine capacity turbocharged 6-cylinder 3000 cc and an electric motor that can generate power of 95 bhp.

This car will surely become one of the favorite cars in China. The car gets its power supply through a battery embedded in the trunk of a car. And incredibly, battery car 2011 BMW 5 Series ActiveHybrid can also be mounted on the house electric.

The 2011 BMW 5 Series ActiveHybrid to a distance of 75 miles at speeds averaging 60 miles per hour. And this car can travel a distance of 400 kilo meters if the car is assisted gasoline engines.

This dream car manufacturer BMW will begin production in 2013. And we shall see later, does this car really will meet the expectations of the Chinese population? We’ll see.

Adrian van Hooydonk, director of BMW’s group design, explains the BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics as “the sport car of the future, the way BMW imagines it.” This two door concept vehicle to be unveiled at the forthcoming Frankfurt Auto Show. Think of it as a vehicle of the many fuel-efficient technologies that BMW has in several stages of development. Some of the technologies already appear in production vehicles, while the feasibility of rolling out other systems stretch the future to the point of never.

BMW company has a great goal to combine groundbreaking efficiency and breath-taking speed. In the BMW Vision, that boils down to 4.8-second 0-to-60 mph acceleration and 63 mpg.

First, BMW engineers combine a turbo charged small diesel engine and the mildest forms of hybrid technology use the rear axle. In Europe this series car comes on the kind of combo in BMW1′s standard. The Vision’s setup is a little more similar to the BMW 320d, which uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel to deliver 162 hp, while gifted over 57 mpg, also to debut in Frankfurt. The BMW Vision takes it a step further by downsizing the engine to a 1.5-liter three-cylinder diesel engine mated with the more robust hybrid system found in the costly BMW ActiveHybrid7, estimated in the US early next year.

If you don’t satisfied with 162 hp, BMW adds a second motor to drive the front wheels exclusively by electricity. This power can put out 356 hp when the motors and the diesel engine are called into service. The BMW Vision is aerodynamic and lightweight. The design features an aluminum chassis and suspension, and an outer skin made mostly of polycarbonate glass. The car’s ‘slimy’ design boasts a drag coefficient of 0.22 –Toyota Prius just 0.25.

BMW Vision utilizes plug-in hybrid technology to lessen the fuel efficiency penalty paid for power. This make BMW Vision becomes more of a fantasy. The combination of hybrid techonologies and diesel is generally viewed as cost unaffordable. As BMW is promising, with enough battery power to permit the BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics to travel for 30 miles of all-electric drive, would send costs through the roof.

Moreover, BMW Vision only needs a 187-pound 10.8 kWh battery to achieve the 30-mile all-electric goal. To pull that off, BMW Vision will release the battery pack’s capacity by 80 percent, which is likely to considerably lessen the durability of the battery.

Slipping further into fantasy-of course, the vehicle is mostly eye candy-the BMW Vision‘s energy management system uses sensors to anticipate the driver’s needs to regulate engine, electrical components, motors, and even front grille louvers for great performance and maximum efficiency. For instance, the management system could anticipate traffic congestion ahead to boost regenerative braking or expect a merge on to a highway to let the engine hum and the motors buzz. BMW says the system can even help you more quickly find a parking space.

BMW with their knowledge and experience is quite optimistic that they can reach this goal.

2011 BMW 1 Series Convertible – This Year’s BMW 135i convertible and coupe customize the turbocharged inline six. Its ranked energy output is equivalent to before, but BMW claims enhanced fuel efficiency along with a more immediate torque response. Another notable change this season may be the BMW 135i’s optional automatic transmission that is now BMW’s 7-speed and DCT or dual-clutch automated manual referred.

The Introduction: 2011 BMW 1 Series Convertible

It might be simple to dismiss the 2011 BMW 1 Series Convertible because the baby BMW that individual buy simply cause they can not pony up for any Three Series. You might claim it is simply a dumpy-searching coupe that is too expensive cash. But spend a while using the BMW 1 Series and its comes with playful character and an irrepressible which brings sheer pleasure towards the experience of driving. Indeed, as the BMW 1 Series convertible and coupe are not probably the most inspiring BMW models, they are wickedly remarkably and fun refined little autos worth the BMW badge.

Besides being the BMW entry-level, the BMW 1 Series can be obtained with similar inline six gasoline engines because the 3 Series. Which means this year’s 135i will get the BMW 3 Series new direct injection inline six using its single twin-scroll turbocharger. Although the engine generates exactly the same three hundred hp and three hundred pound-ft of torque because the outgoing twin-turbo inline-six, the torque now occurs even earlier and most significant, gas mileage has enhanced. Actually, the 135i has become more fuel efficient compared to 128i using its 230-horsepower aspirated port-injection inline-six naturally.

Additionally, the new 2011 version from the BMW 135i is definitely an optional DCT or aka dual-clutch transmission. As with the BMW 335i, Z4, and M3, this transmission offers interaction using the driver that’s as rewarding and crisp like a stick shift, yet give you smooth-shifting and intuitive being an matic.

Honestly, the 2011 BMW 1 Series Convertible is quite costly, but given its effective engines, sports vehicle- the dearth of other small, style handling and also rear-wheel-drive models that to check, it’s difficult to express the BMW 1 is simply too costly. Indeed, no vehicle truly lines track of the BMW 128i or BMW 135i being an apples-to-apples competitor, although Hyundai Genesis 3.6, Nissan 370Z, the Audi TT, Infiniti G37, and also the American muscle cars have been in exactly the same ballpark because the coupe, and also you could mix-store the convertible from the Volkswagen Eos 550d and Small Cooper convertible.

Generally, it is going to come lower as to the type of convertible or small coupe you would like. The BMW 3 Series is definitely an apparent alternative too, and simultaneously, the BMW 1 Series is definitely an alternative for that 3, as you will find certainly more reasons than cost to choose the infant BMW over its bigger brother. Therefore if somebody begins bashing the BMW 1, make certain to lightly help remind him it offers the solid construction, sporting personality, and distinctively nimble character which make the 2011 BMW 1 Series Convertible as truly BMW.

I recommended you to read my previously articles before you reading this article: 2010 Hybrid Cars-1, and 2010 Hybrid Cars-2.

Active 7 Hybrid and X6 Hybrid are BMW Hybrids Car

There are two BMW hybrids which has high of horsepower. There are X6 Hybrid and active 7 Hybrid. BMW X6 is intersecting SUV. It has change into sporty car field. This car has being called as “sporty activity.” The main characters performance of this car are low profile, long rear jut out over, inclined roofline, short front hang over, low slung standpoint, the control of stability, 4 large wheels, muscular wheels arches, long wheelbase, and many more. This car will get in all probability such as 480 horsepower and V8 engine of 4.8 liter which can accelerate squashy from idle to 60mph every five seconds. It is about 20 % growth compare with the X6 and not as much of impressive. If you consider of high horsepower, efficiency of fuel and the magnificence, BMW Active Hybrid 7 is must be thinking too. It outstands in 2010. BMW is such a kind of car or sedan that the fastest in the world. Are you expecting economical energy? This car is more economical 15 % than 750i that can reach the town with 15mpg and 22mpg on highway.

Dodge Ram of Hybrid Car

Notwithstanding its troubles, in 2010, Chrysler is going to revolve out the edition of Dodge Ram. The largest segment of car sells next in the USA. Will recover Chrysler’s fortune with and highly development technology of Ram? It is a doubtful. The Chevy Silverado Hybrid put up for sale two hundred units a month. The cost of the gas is increasing; it believably persuades Chrysler to make Ram Hybrid within larger numbers. However, customer should not hold their breath. On the other hand, the technology is so extraordinary. Why it said so? It is because there are four or eight cylinders or thereof. It is for minimizing fuel and providing 3 tons of high capacity. There is also 260 kilowatt electric motor for electricity and one of multi dislocation of 5.7-liter pushrod of HEMI V8.

Cayenne Hybrid Car

Porsche and Prius are center of automobile spectrum part. One of them was the best brand of sport car which come from German. It has high performance and famous for its loud flat of 6 engines and great engineering. It is just about a teenager. It is an image of modern of towering mileage hybrid. Currently the spectrum is out of shape. Poles are nearer. Porsche is going to introduce its sport car, Cayenne Hybrid at the end of 2010. Although, it far from Prius. Cayenne Hybrid in 2011 is using a directly injected. It also use Audio 3 liter supercharged which is rated 333 of horsepower. This is pair with 8 transmissions. Sandwiched between 2 is mounting in a 38kw electric motor. It put out torque for about 221 and the two of third is as a large amount as the steam engine. Porsche to state as a fact the boosted of engine and electric motor is 0 until 62 mph every six point six seconds. The efficiency of Cayenne S Hybrid projected of main road in 24 miles each gallon can improve 19 way mpg in 13 urban.

The Prius progression

So, 2010, what happen to classic hybrid model like Toyota Prius if those hybrid cars hit the marketplace? Toyota cannot buy breaking on its success after there are many complaints about the bad of braking in 2009. However the company always put on the marketplace Prius than other hybrids. As a result, Prius is start to progress.

Taking green car halo with Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt, the corporation is trying to accelerate its tactics by plug up in Prius version. This car would not be accessible pending 2011. However, its news of trial run 500 plug in of Prius paid attention. The same rumors from subcompact hybrid also try to get into. But we believe those rumors revolving into product in January 2010. Following time, Priuses bleats the market again. They will offering 30 until 40 hybrids to automotive in the world which good in size and shape, low priced, and safe because it use electric power as fuel.

BMW ActiveHybrid X6

The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 has a great performance. This hybrid will sell for $89,725. BMW ActiveHybrid X6 mates a 4.4 l twin turbo 400 hp V8 engine with two electric motors which can deliver 86 hp and 91 hp each. This car is geared for great performance. You can get 0-60 speed in 5.5 seconds. BMW ActiveHybrid X6 system means a 20 percent over the conventional X6 – but that only adds up to 17 miles per gallons (city) and 19 miles per gallons (highway).

Standard features of BMW ActiveHybrid X6 include leather interior, 20” aero wheels, 7 speed automatic transmissions, rearview camera with top view and heads-up display.

Mercedes Benz ML 450 Hybrid

Mercedes Company shows slightly more deference to fuel economy in their ML 450 Hybrid – with 275- hp, 3.5 liter, V6 engine and two motors providing 335 hp. This hybrid will deliver 21 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway fuel economy. If we compare with V8 ML 550 which rates just 13/18, it’s a nice boost.

Curiously, you can get the Mercedes Benz ML 450 Hybrid as your own with only on a lease of $549 a month for 60 months (for 36 months you must pay $659 each month. Roban Moran, the spokesperson of USA Mercedes tells us that the company offering this vehicle as lease because the company has a limited supply of batteries available. Reading this issue, we assume that Mercedes has some concerns about replacing or maintaining the nickel metal hybride batteries in the future.

German carmakers has a great interest about hybrid gas electric vehicle – with the BMW ActiveHybrid x6 and Mercedes Benz ML 450 Hybrid, they have arrived to the hybrid party with keg sized jugs of luxurious stuff. Unfortunately, the most exciting green car party has already moved on to electric cars and plug-in hybrids with much greater potential to reduce fuel use and emissions.

In June 2009, BMW has encountered several problems with its program to evaluate the all electric Mini-E. BMW Mini or BMW City has lease for $850 a month for a year – but this program continues to stumble as a growing number of volunteers who are trying this program – are going public with their issues.

BMW Mini E-Car – Mini Cooper all electric version – is can boasts from 0 to 60 mph time of 8.5 second with a 95 mph top speed. This mini electric car is capable of approximately 150 miles on a charge. BMW produced about 500 BMW City cars—and leased to individuals and municipalities in Southern California, New Jersey, and New York.

The list of BMW City Car’s complaints includes:

Need a long time to deliver Mini E Car to lessees

Months of delays in the installation and inspection of home charging equipment, some requiring expensive upgrades to home power service

Mini E Car were delivered as electric vehicle conversions – with the back seat taken up by the battery pack – rather than finished production vehicles

Need a long time to recharge – as long as 21 hours for a full charge

The most serious accusation levied against BMW Mini Electric Car comes from the electric car advocacy group – Plug In America (PIA). PIA Group said the Mini E program was botched and accused BMW Company just want to get credit for California Air Resource Board Zero Emission Vehicle or CARB-ZEV mandate. Even though they just leased for one year, the company gets full credit for BMW City E-Cars. PIA Group also blames CARB policy which essentially created a loophole for the company to exploit.

Natalie Bauters, spokeswoman of Mini E, said that the company made no secret of trying to take advantage of the ZEV credits of the June 30 deadline – according to the LA Times. “BMW is clearly committed to this technology. We have learned a bloody ton, and we intend to use that learning in the future” said the manager of product stratergy for the Mini E Car, Rich Steinberg.

According to Car and Driver Magazine – BMW will officially launch BMW Mini, its first electric car under its Project I program in 2011. BMW City is a little smaller than a Honda Fit but the style will be BMW-like and the range about 100 miles.

“According to BMW chairman and CEO Norbert Reithofer, the City is designed specifically for the US market to meet California’s ZEV requirements.” As Car and Driver reported. Moreover, the company also developing gas and diesel version of the BMW City for Asian markets, particularly in China.
