Chevrolet Hybrid Cars - The first auto alternatives for the 21-st century

Fuel Economy and Payback of Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid

Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid: GM has produced the first pickup trucks with use two mode hybrid systems that would be completely as qualified as their conventional one. The 2WD versions of the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid and its sister, the 2009 GM Sierra Hybrid – can tow up to 6,100 pounds and still deliver mileage of about 21 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. These hybrid trucks will be available in early 2009.

The 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2WD Crew Cab Hybrid starting price at $38,995; adding the luxury package takes about $44,155.

Fuel Economy and Payback of Silverado Hybrid

Of course, if you compare to your average Toyota Prius driver, 22 mpg may still seem profligate. But let us takes careful explanation – let us look at the math – to make the case that this hybrid trucks will big helps cut US oil imports.

If we compare with a non hybrid pickup which returns just 14 mpg (city)/ 20 mpg (highway), and the racking up 10,000 miles a year, split equally between city and highway travel, the hybrid system will saves about 140 gallons of gasoline a year. That’s more fuel efficient than you would keep from a Toyota Camry to a Toyota Camry Hybrid.

Nowadays, purchasers will receive about $2,200 federal tax credit. That means the benefits, using $2/gallon gasoline, is somewhere around four years-no less than until GM’s credits pass on. Spending more time in stop-and-go traffic, or racking up higher mileage, cuts the payback time. And if gasoline should return to the $4 per gallon levels of summer 2008, payback would speed up even further.

Nowadays many automakers have shown a great attention to the hybrid car technology’s development and implementation. One of the automaker is Chevrolet. Currently Chevrolet provides the Silverado hybrid – a hybrid trucks – the first production model of Chevrolet Company. Moreover, the company has plans for a various new hybrid models in latest years, such as Tahoe, Suburban, Malibu, or Saturn’s VUE hybrid SUV. Chevrolet also expanded with a fleet of transit buses powered by their Allison Electric Drive Transmission system at the municipal level – for King Country, Washington. That fleet will save more than 750,000 gallons of gasoline a year in King Country, over the non hybrid it replaced.

Hybrid Trucks – Overview

Nowadays people have a great concern about the environment issue. Among the efforts made in the preservation of the natural world interest in particular has been awaken for saving our planet from destruction. Therefore many engineers, scientist, and vehicle manufacturers have come together to create green cars or at least to adjust the existing ones to the present environmental needs and legal specifications.

A true success is the creation of more varied types of hybrid vehicles and hybrid truck taken an important in this field. Why hybrid trucks have a great object of our interest? Well, as we know, trucks not only consumes huge amounts of gasoline but their exhaust also give a serious pollutant in the environment.

Hybrid Trucks Help the Economy

Hybrid vehicles that primarily use electric as a propellant go a long way toward helping our economy by reducing the demand for gasoline. Beside that, hybrid vehicle also keep the cost living down, because we no longer used our salary to fill up vehicles, especially farm vehicles. With adopting hybrid as standard vehicles, we can create a domino effect that will eventually have long term results on both our environment and economy.

Hybrid trucks with its zero emission requirements may be imposed in urban centers like Los Angeles, New York, and Houston. Anyone who flying into New York or Los Angeles area is literally shrouded in air pollution.  United State’s economical and environmental health is slowly disintegrating, and if American does not to make lifestyle change and support the manufacture of hybrid trucks and cars, this disintegration will make air we all breathe is toxic.

Federal government gives a large tax credit for the companies that use heavy-duty hybrid trucks. This alone indicates that the federal is cognizant of the harm to our wallets and health caused by an over dependence on gasoline.

Disadvantages of Hybrid trucks, Cars, and other Vehicles

Each type of energy source has its disadvantages. Older hybrid trucks have batteries that must be recharged and its might inconvenient because we need about three or four hours to recharge this battery. Hybrid vehicles still inferior for acceleration and climbing compare gasoline vehicles.

Radios, Air Conditioners, Radios, CD Players and other accessories drain the battery even more quickly than driving alone. When the battery recharging station is rare, hybrid trucks owner or other vehicle will most likely need to purchase a battery charger for personal use.

Each form of transportation has their problems. It is a simple matter of weighing the pros and cons of owning a hybrid vehicle, and making an informed decision.

Electric Truck Tips and Guide

More and more people are starting to appreciate the electric car. Back in mid 2008, crude oil prices were at its highest and many car owners were having a tough time coping. Some have chosen to leave their vehicle at home and use the public transportation instead. Others have decided to find a cheaper way to travel by exploring electric vehicle. Unfortunately, a new electric vehicle is still quite expensive. One way to own an affordable electric car is to convert an existing gasoline driven vehicle to run on electricity. One popular donor vehicle for electric conversion is a pickup truck (electric truck).

The idea of a homemade electric truck is to remove the internal combustion engine and replace it with an electric motor. To generate torque, the motor is connected directly to the transmission unit. To power the motor, a series of deep cycle batteries are used. This is where a pickup truck is an excellent candidate for electric truck conversion. A truck has a flatbed on its back to store the batteries.

An average electric truck would require 10 to 15 units of batteries. On a full charge, the electric truck will be able to travel up to 150 miles before you have to recharge. An electric truck would have ample storage space on its back. All you have to do is build a covered box to keep the battery safe and dry.

If you are not well versed with the inner workings of an automobile, it is not recommended for you to start your own electric truck conversion. Most of the work will involve electrical wiring and machine tooling. Since some of the components are not available off the shelves, certain important parts have to be custom made. In this case, a better solution is to outsource the whole conversion process to a professional mechanic. This will save you a lot of time and headache.

Get some electric truck knowledge before you start to send your gasoline driven to a professional workshop to be conversion. There are many electric truck conversion eBooks on the web.
