Honda projects that the 2010 Honda Insight Hybrid will carry a CARB AT-PZEV emission rating.

Evoking the aerodynamic five-door sedan design first deployed on the FCX Clarity fuel cell car, the new 2010 Honda Insight Hybrid has a low center of gravity and seats five.

2010 Honda Insight Hybrid combines a 1.3-liter SOHC aluminum-alloy i-VTEC engine and CVT, with a new generation of Honda’s IMA hybrid system. The Insight’s IMA system includes a 10 kW (13 hp) electric motor that delivers 68 lb-ft (92 Nm) of torque and a compact Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) consisting of a 5.75 Ah, 100.8V NiMH battery pack, Power Control Unit (PCU), motor Electric Control Unit (ECU), and cooling system.

Combined output and overall torque of the engine and motor is 98 hp (73 kW) @ 5,800 rpm, with max torque of 123 lb-ft (167 Nm) @ 1,000-1,500 rpm.To further support fuel-efficient driving, the Insight features the Ecological Drive Assist System (Eco Assist) as standard equipment on all models.

The strength of the Insight is the value it brings because of its pricing. And as the cheapest hybrid, Honda may take over the hybrid car market.

The 2010 Honda Insight Hybrid car made its world debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January and goes on sale in the US in April 2009.

Integrated Motor Assist or IMA is Honda’s hybrid auto technology, released in 1999 on the Honda Insight. It’s a particular implementation of the parallel hybrid car. This utilizes an electrical motor installed between the Internal Combustion Engine and also transmission to behave like an engine balancer, starter motor, and also aid grip motor. In the first generation, IMA couldn’t power the vehicle on electrical energy entirely, and might only utilize the motor to help or start the actual engine.

Integrated Motor Assist History

Integrated Motor Assist

The 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid, nevertheless, can activate the electrical motor even though the auto is coasting with out turning the internal combustion engine along, although contrary to Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive or perhaps GM and also DaimlerChrysler’s Global Hybrid Cooperation, the Integrated Motor Assist features a to a lesser extent powerful motor generator that allows the vehicle to be able to slow or stop it’s charge per unit associated with deceleration to a lesser extent; it wouldn’t operate on without having turning on the engine which can be straight linked to it’s electric motor.

The idea behind IMA is to apply regenerative braking to be able to recapture a few of the energy missed through deceleration, and also reprocess which energy later to aid speed up the automobile. This has 2 effects: it increases the pace of speedup, plus it reduces the work required from the gasoline engine. The speedup rise is very important because it enables the engine being scaled as a result of a smaller but to a greater extent fuel efficient variant without having rendition the automobile excessively slow or even weak. This smaller engine will be the primary reason vehicles built with IMA improve highway fuel consumption rate than their more traditional counterparts.

Additionally, automobiles built with IMA can shut off their own engine if the auto stops and use the electrical motor to be able to quickly spin it back up once the driver emits the brake foot pedal. There is also a standard starter like a backup, which makes it the only output hybrid system which could operate using its high voltage electric system disabled, only using it’s engine just like a conventional vehicle. Nevertheless, because the IMA also works since the automobile’s alternator, finally the 12 Volt accessory assault and battery might require another charge.

Honda Insight and Integrated Motor Assist

Coming from 1999 to 2006, Honda Insight relied on Integrated Motor Assist system from Honda. The Integrated Motor Assist system assisted the electrical motor to perform start and stop sequences using the accelerator engine throughout sealed driving weather condition. This technique besides kept the hybrid battery charged aside turn the engine in to a generator.

The Honda Hybrid still utilizes the Integrated Motor Assist system; however it experienced a couple of improvements which are based in the up-to-date model. The Honda Insight can perform 40 miles per gallon in the city and also 43 mpg on the highway. The combined fuel consumption rate is 41 mpg.

This is good news for hybrids lover. According to Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or IIHS which announced the Toyota Prius and Honda Insight to get Top Safety Pick award based on front, side, and rear crash testing. This award makes a clear statement that hybrids not just fuel efficient but can also get high level of safety too.

Toyota Prius on all its model and Honda Insight on the Insight EX and LX models has requirements to earn the IIHS Top Safety Pick award. Prius and Insight has good ratings in ratings in all three tests (front, side, and rear crash testing) and offer electronic stability control too.

The Toyota Prius Hybrid has an average efficiency rating of 51 mpg, this rating make it as the most fuel efficient vehicle on the market today. The Honda Insight has a combined city and highway rating of 41 mpg.

The IIHS’s side test simulates a crash with a pickup truck or SUV going at 31 mph. The frontal test they use vehicle that have same weight as the test car and moving at 0 mph. The insurance group also simulates a stationary vehicle being rear-ended by a car moving at 20 mph. The test result tell us that the side crash test results apply no matter what size cars we are comparing, but in the front crash test results are meaningful only when you using the same weight comparing models.

In the Honda Insight’s front crash test, the side curtain air bag prevented the dummy’s head from any hitting structures, although there was a risk of rib fractures in the side impact test – but the risk is slightly. In the Toyota Prius’s frontal test, the driver’s head hit the pillar (but the impact was relatively low) between the back and the front windows. The driver dummy’s head suffered slightly more on an impact when the car hit the steering wheel though the air bag.

Honda CR-Z Hybrid Coupe: Hybrid of the most vilified in the market today is the Honda CR-Z Hybrid Coupe. It came into false hope. Take a look at the design sporty coupe, and you may expect to be fast car skylark. The people who complain most about the Honda CR-Z Hybrid Coupe as if it were a kind of personal attack against their world view to say the same old thing again and again: “It’s nor fast enough, or enough fuel efficient.”

But they see the wrong signal to understand the car, and thus lost its attraction and benefits of the Honda CR-Z Hybrid Coupe, which we found again after a few days longer to drive six-speed manual version last week. You should see the price tag, and the three driving modes.

First, price. Base MSRP is $ 19,345, by many standard car entry for young people who want to mix fun, technology and efficiency. Sure, you can buy more horsepower for the dollar. Honda CR-Z Hybrid Coupe is only serving to 122 ponies. But that’s the total package: low-slung position, tight handling, sharp graphical dashboard, and a hybrid system mated with a stick shift which makes it a kick drive. A set of features to attract an attractive price make the Honda CR-Z hybrid coupe is the third most popular in the U.S. in April (at the back of the Toyota Prius and Honda Insight). The 5,000 people who bought the Honda CR-Z Hybrid Coupes are not crazy. They see the value.

The Honda CR-Z hybrid coupe three driving mode – Normal, Sport and Eco-are put to better use in hybrid manual transmission, than in other hybrids. (The Honda CR-Z hybrid coupe is only offered with a manual.) If you’ve recently from place to place, thinking about things other than driving, leave it in Normal for steady easy to shift. Put it in Sport to throw the gears, and squealed around the city with the spirit of a few. Or push the Eco mode to play a shift at low rpm to maximize fuel economy. Unlike hybrid automatic pistol (especially with CVTs), driving experience radical change with every change of fashion-and thus provides another reason to make the Honda CR-Z Hybrid is affordable fun little commuter car.

We use a combination of three modes in which almost the same proportion-whatever meets our fancy. (Frankly, we are pushing the boundaries of Sport as much as possible.) At the end of several days, we count the number of fuel efficiency of 37.5 miles to the gallon. Impressive.

The slamfest Honda CR-Z Hybrid Coupe will not end any time soon. But when we hear it, we knew it was coming from people who fail to understand the relationship between the newly redefined style vehicles, power, efficiency and cost in the age of hybrid and electric cars. If you’re in the market for hybrids, and can live with two seats, Honda CR-Z Hybrid Coupe is worth a test drive.

The automaker from Japan, Honda Corp., with their new Honda CR-Z hybrid is scheduled to hit dealers in the United Kingdom and the United States in this summer and at the same time. But while Honda CR-Z hybrid has so far remained beneath the radar in America, this sporty hybrid car gather plenty of positive ‘push’ on the other side of pool.

We can not imagine that the project of Honda Motor Europe in filmmaking groups, Live Every Liter (liveeverylitre.com), is the ‘raison d’être for the extra awareness. The Marketing efforts – theoretically planned to advertise the Honda CR-Z Hybrid as as hip-produce a series of YouTube road trip that forced the uncertainly and boredom. Nevertheless, the British trio of auto reviewers lately reported a much better time than the rear wheel of the Honda CR-Z.

The Mirror (blogs.mirror.co.uk)– Quentin Willson, was almost excited about the car. He wrote that Honda CR-Z is set to be one of most popular vehicles on the planet. Seeking line ‘zero’ else on the road, with an amazing swooping roofline. He explained that Honda CR-Z hybrid is a lulu to drive. Moreover, he praised the steering and handling of Honda CR-Z. He said that this is one of the best cars from Honda, and the first truly hybrid sports coupe in the world. Something that sustainability and sexy.

The BBC’s Top Gear (topgear.com)– Jason Barlow agreed with Quentin Willson. Barlow said that Honda may finally make ‘eco automotive sexy’ and he praised the handling of Honda CR-Z Hybrid. He said that it’s fun to drive Honda CR-Z hybrid.

The Telegraph (telegraph.co.uk) – Andrew England, in general positive but not too much like the others. Englis said that Honda CR-Z hybrid poor of visibility at the corners and through the back, for braking that feels ‘wooden,’ for limited space in the rear seats, and to roll the body too much. However, he was ‘awarded’ the Honda CR-Z hybrid as ‘sporting by hybrid standards’ and concluded that it was a fun little car.

Honda Hybrid Cars: With Honda Insights, Honda hybrid cars were first introduced in the United State market in 1999. Actually, Honda hybrid cars were the first generation mass market hybrid car to be introduced in the United State, and then Toyota was quickly following with its Toyota Prius during the same year. Even though Honda the first in United State market, but the sales of Toyota’s hybrid cars have so far outpaced the sales of Honda’s hybrid cars.

However, internally, with Civic Hybrid, Honda had a record with sales up 17,5 percent to 25,571 for the calendar year.

In addition, total sales of Honda hybrid cars also rose 18.6 percent to a new record of 27,215 vehicles with its Accord Hybrid in 2004.

In early 2006, total Honda hybrid sales since the introduction of the Honda Insight in December 1999 have been over than 100,000 hybrid cars sold in major markets, including 5,900 in Japan, 89,000 in United State, 1,500 in Canada, and 3,800 in Europe.

Honda Hybrid Cars – 2006

In 2006, Honda hybrid cars have three hybrid cars available in the United State market – with the addition of Honda Accord in 2004.

Honda Accord Hybrid, the newest of Honda hybrid cars, which was introduced in the fourth quarter of 2004, has been strong seller for the company in North America since the introduction of the car to consumers.

Honda Accord Hybrid

Honda Accord Hybrid becomes a favorite of customers around the world since the model’s launch in 1976.

As for the version of hybrid, it is a 225 horse power, V-6 car that gives you lower end torque with increased fuel economy.

The 2005 EPA fuel economy performance expected that Honda Accord can get about 37 mpg in highway and 29 mpg in city.

Honda Civic Hybrid

Civic was the second of Honda hybrid vehicle in the United State market – launched back in 2002.

To aimed best fuel efficiency, Honda Civic Hybrid uses an IMA or integrated motor assist system with a lightweight gasoline engine and a compact electric motor.

In 2006, Civic nominated as “Car of the Year” by Motor Trend and 2006 North American Car of the Year.

Honda Insight Hybrid

As a first next generation gasoline electric hybrid sold in the United State markets, Honda Insight Hybrid holds many benchmarks that others try to achieve.

For fuel efficiency, the Honda Insight has been the overall leading car in the U.S. car market for six years in a row.

Rating for the Insights was at 60/66 mpg for manual transmission Insight in 2005 – EPA fuel economy.

Given those fuel economy figures, Honda has expected the driving range of the Honda Insight hybrid about 600-700 miles on one 10.6-gallon tank of regular unleaded gas.

Honda Accord Hybrid: Nowadays the development trend and increasing interest in protecting the environment, and saving the Earth’s energy resources by wasting as little as possible has materialized at least in the auto making’s field. We are talking about the appearance of a new vehicle’s type: the hybrid. Honda is the one of car manufacturers that have committed to this approach, coming up with a number of hybrid cars such as Honda Insight or Honda Accord Hybrid. This Honda Accord Hybrid was built between 2005 and 2007 by Marysville, Ohio and Sayama, Japan.

The newer models of the Honda Accord Hybrid are Honda Accord Diesel and Honda FCX Clarity. The Honda Accord Hybrid’ class is mid-size. This is actually a 4 door sedan with an FF layout. It relies on a 3.0L V6 engine with a 5-speed automatic transmission. The other features of the Honda Accord include the wheelbase of 107.9 in, the length of 189.5 in (in 2005) and 191.1 in (in 2006 – 07), the width of 71.4 in (in 2005) and 71.7 in (in 2006 – 07), the height of 57.0 in (in 2005) and 57.2 in (in 2006 – 07). Honda Accord and Honda Inspire are the other vehicles that has related to the Honda Accord Hybrid.

Honda Accord Hybrid mentioned is a hybrid combination of the North American Honda Accord which was provided in 2005 – 2007 model years. This vehicle model followed the other hybrid models from the Honda manufacturers: Honda Civic Hybrid and Honda Insight Hybrid. This Accord – third in the line of Honda hybrids, was valued $3,000 more than the Accord EX V6 and it maintained the same trim and quality levels, except the 2005 model which didn’t have the power sunroof. Thus, the Honda Accord Hybrid holds at the top position of the Honda lineup.

This hybrid car has an equal displacement as compared to the conventional Accord V6 (7th generation) power plant; yet the Honda Accord Hybrid’s horse power peculiarity of this vehicle is comes from the Honda Odyssey Minivan model of 2005. This vehicle has the capacity to shut down 3 out of the 6 cylinders in order to save fuel, but only under certain conditions. This technology regarding the cylinders is known as VCM or Variable Cylinder Management and it was patented by Honda. The engine of this vehicle features iVTEC technology and also provides a very modern compact transmission. This new transmission specificity makes the insertion of the electric motor inserted between the transmission train and the gas engine. The fuel economy in this Honda Accord Hybrid was initially rated at 29 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. With such huge properties, it’s no wonder that the Honda Accord Hybrid won the Canadian Car of the Year Best New Alternative Power Award in 2005.

The Third-Best Selling Hybrid: Honda Civic Hybrid

Honda Company has offers Honda Civic Hybrid, the most affordable hybrids out of the top ten best selling hybrids in America. The Honda Civic Hybrid is nearly indistinguishable from the conventional Civic, except for its powertrain.

In 2008 purchasers snapped up more than 31,000 Honda Civic Hybrids. Not only is it an economical choice for green drivers, the Civic Hybrid also retains a lot of the fun to drive characteristics of the standard Civic. The Honda Civic Hybrid handles well, has Honda’s bulletproof reputation for reliability, and accelerates with some oomph. But the Civic Hybrid won’t be the cheap kid on the block for long. Honda will reintroduce the Honda Insight, a midsized hybrid that will likely be priced less than the Honda Civic Hybrid, in April of 2009.

The Fourth-Best Selling Hybrid: Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner Hybrids

Even though General Motors has three hybrids on this top 10 list, Ford is the only US local automaker with hybrids listed in the top five. Together, the Mercury Mariner and Ford Escape Hybrids are the fourth best selling hybrid vehicles of 2008. The two models are fairly similar. Both are compact SUVs that seat five and are almost mechanically identical.

In 2008, Ford sold almost 20,000 of the Mariner and Escape Hybrids as buyers opted for all the capabilities and convenience of a small SUV, but with the added boost of improved gas mileage and decreased emissions. As Ford starts to roll out more hybrids, ‘counting’ the well-reviewed Ford Fusion Hybrid, the Mariner and Escape seem to be a good platform to build on.

The Fifth-Best Selling Hybrid: Toyota Highlander Hybrid

Tokyo – Honda Motor Co., Thursday 5 February 2009 introduced the Honda Insight, the cheapest hybrid car. Insight is the cheapest hybrid car in the market.

Insight, the cheapest hybrid, starting at 1.89 million yen ($21,000) in the Japanese market, The Insight goes on sale in April in the U.S. (under $20,000), and March in Europe.

Honda’s Management recognizes is now at a difficult time for selling cars. Norio Ano, who oversees auto development at Honda, said “If the Insight had gone on sale a half year earlier, it would have been such a sure hot-seller,”

The big appeal of the Insight, a five-door hatchback, is its pricing.

The price was cheaper than Toyota Motor Corp.’s Prius, the top selling hybrid. Prius is valued at around 2.3 million yen in Japan and U.S. $ 22,000 in the U.S. market.

“Price to be an important factor when we make a hybrid car to the international market,” said Honda President Takeo Fukui. And Honda makes the cheapest hybrid car.

The strength of the Insight is the value it brings because of its pricing. And as the cheapest hybrid, Honda may take over the hybrid car market.
