Sales of gas-electric cars jumped nearly 20 percent in May, compared to last month, outpacing the overall vehicle market that increased by 12.3 percent. Sales of the 2010 Toyota Prius, which continues to make up half of all hybrid purchases, increased by 13.5 percent to 14,248 units—despite a relatively poor showing by the entire Toyota brand. Industry observers believe that Toyota has yet to overcome negative publicity from safety recalls earlier this years, yet car shoppers are apparently excusing the Toyota Prius from those quality concerns.

Sales of the Ford Fusion Hybrid accelerated by a whopping 64 percent to 2,486 units. Ford also added nearly 25 percent more sales of the Ford Escape Hybrid. At this point, Ford has decisively leapfrogged Honda to become the number two seller of hybrid cars. Toyota owns 68 percent of the hybrid market; Ford holds 14 percent; and Honda has dropped to nearly 9 percent of hybrid car sales. The upcoming Honda CR-Z hybrid might help the company regain the second place spot—and Honda executives are promising a clean-slate approach for future hybrids.

Sales of the Altima hybrid, which is only available in eight states, soared by 253 percent. It’s unclear if publicity about the company’s all-electric Nissan Leaf helped raise the green perception of the entire Nissan brand.

BMW shipped the first 7 units of its $103,000 ActiveHybrid 7. Those units, combined with 12 reported sales of the BMW X6, reveal the company’s half-hearted efforts with hybrids. General Motors and Mercedes haven’t fared much better.

Clean diesel sales were up by 8.4 percent to 6,961 units in May compared to last month. Volkswagen continues to dominate clean diesel sales with nearly 80 percent of the market, led by the Jetta TDI, which single-handedly is responsible for 62 percent of all clean diesel purchases.

Despite the rebound in May, hybrid gas-electric cars continue to lag behind the overall market in year-to-date sales, with an 8.5 percent increase so far in 2010 over last year—compared to a 17.2 percent increase in the overall market. That’s not a big surprise, considering that average U.S. gas prices are about 20 cents lower than this time last year. Public outrage over the Gulf oil spill has created a latent demand for fuel-efficient or petroleum-free alternatives—but as long as gas is cheap, sales of hybrids, clean diesel and upcoming plug-in cars will be dampened. If and when gas prices start to climb, Toyota and Ford will be well positioned with hybrids, and Volkswagen with clean diesel vehicles.

Affordable hybrid is certainly a primary option for those of you who want to play a part in preserving the environment by using environmentally friendly cars. This will be increasingly easy to be realized with the advent of automobile technology from Honda. The roads of Britain and other country will be a little greener as the new Honda Insight becomes an affordable hybrid choice for eco-warriors.

SINCE 1999 Honda have been working on hybrid automotive technology and have already produced some good examples, most notably the Civic IMA. Like the popular Toyota Prius, the Civic IMA rolled out for around £20,000 which is generally beyond the reach of your average eco-warrier. After spending all their money on compost bins and ethically sourced everything only the wealthy could drive these hybrids.

Honda have taken their years of experience in this field and produced a more affordable hybrid vehicle that doesn’t compromise style and function. Available for a reported £15,000 this April it undercuts it’s rivals and begins to become affordable hybrid for the masses.

Affordable Hybrid: The Business End

The obvious environmental advantages of driving this Honda Insight are the fuel consumption which can be up to 64.2 mpg and the carbon emissions at just 101 g/km. From a 1.3-litre that’s pretty impressive!

Because it’s a hybrid you can drive all round inner city London and Boris Johnson won’t ask for a penny. This technology is exempt from paying congestion charges and with these low emissions it will only cost you £15 a year in car tax.

Affordable Hybrid: What Else?

So all the stats look good and the sums definitely add up so what else does it have to offer?

Not only is this car capable of these economic driving figures but it will also help you learn how to drive more economically. The lighting behind the screen glows a friendly green whilst the car is being driven economically, however it will turn a guilty blue when you begin putting your foot down too hard.

Your journey is also rated and it will give you a score in number of trees depending on how well you performed.

Not only is this a rather trim spec on the inside but the aerodynamic shape of the car gives it a futuristic, distinct look that sets it aside from others on the road. It also functions well as a practical, usable family with a large boot and spacious 60/40 split seats.

On the down side once this car leave the safety of the urban environment it lacks power. Whats more it will tell you off for trying to use any. Those who don’t like being told what to do may find the concept of a Japanese computer programmer telling them how to drive off putting.

Affordable Hybrid: What Do They Say?

Commenting on the debut of the Insight, Ken Keir, Managing Director of Honda (UK) said that this is the first time that Honda Hybrid technology has been available in a five-seat, five door car but at an affordable hybrid price. Beside that, by combining an electric motor with a highly efficient petrol engine, the Honda Insight offers drivers not only low CO2 emissions, but also very low emissions of other greenhouse gasses like N2O.

Affordable Hybrid: The Conclusion

If people are going to buy themselves a new car in the recession it will probably be one that will not cost a lot in tax and petrol. Whilst also looking good and functioning well this may well be the Affordable Hybrid choice of many.

Evoking the aerodynamic five-door sedan design first deployed on the FCX Clarity fuel cell car, the new 2010 Honda Insight Hybrid has a low center of gravity and seats five.

2010 Honda Insight Hybrid combines a 1.3-liter SOHC aluminum-alloy i-VTEC engine and CVT, with a new generation of Honda’s IMA hybrid system.
Combined output and overall torque of the engine and motor is 98 hp (73 kW) @ 5,800 rpm, with max torque of 123 lb-ft (167 Nm) @ 1,000-1,500 rpm.To further support fuel-efficient driving, the Insight features the Ecological Drive Assist System (Eco Assist) as standard equipment on all models.

The strength of the Insight is the value it brings because of its pricing. And as the cheapest hybrid, Honda may take over the hybrid car market.

The 2010 Honda Insight Hybrid car made its world debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January and goes on sale in the US in April 2009.

Since Toyota Company introduces its Toyota Prius in Japan in 1997, hybrid car prices have been dropping. Hybrid car prices are very important because we all have a particular amount that we can or cannot save, whether the vehicle is new or used. And as consumers, you can get great deals on hybrid car prices, because they are always available for you. Here is some information you must know about the hybrid car prices.

A Comparison of Different Models

Manufacturer’s suggested retail price or better known as MSRP are decided by the auto makers and advice to the auto dealers to be the base price guide in dealing with consumers or buyers. Auto dealers providing fleet sales to corporate consumers have also the invoice price, or the auto dealers paid that amount to the car makers, better used for wholesale purchases being made from auto dealers.

Even though these two serve as guides for the consumers, hybrid car prices may increase due to additional costs for add-ons to the vehicles or for non standard features. Maybe as consumers you will also charges for delivery to move the vehicles to the place where you are situated. Moreover, costs of taxes, marketing, registration, and other maybe added by the auto dealers over and above the invoice price or MSRP.

Hybrid Car Prices Ranges

As we know, nowadays Toyota Prius is at the bottom rung, with MSRP of $22,175, exclusive of hybrid tax incentives that come along with purchases of hybrid vehicles, eco-friendly units. In other sides, 2007 Honda Accord Hybrid four wheel drive 4-door sedan will be at the high end of the spectrum at around $31,000. Both these hybrid car prices not including delivery pricing.

The Array of Hybrid Car Prices

In between the Honda Accord Hybrid and the Toyota Prius Hybrid, the Toyota Camry Hybrid is priced about $26,000. With a highly recommended purchase by many hybrid shoppers, the Saturn Aura Green Line Hybrid starts at $22,695. The Honda Hybrid FWD 4-doors sedan starting price at @22,600 exclusive of destination costs.

In hybrid SUVs category, the 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid starts at the top with $32,500 – packed and loaded with all amenities you can ask for. The 2008 Mercury Mariner hybrid 4-wheel drive SUV starts at the bottom with $27,515, followed by the 4FD Ford Escape Hybrid Hybrid SUV as the cheapest in this category starts at $27,250.

2007 Hybrid Car Prices

Immediately, critics branded all hybrids as impractical and small. But that was back in ten years ago.

In addition to developing gas efficient vehicles, the push is on to produce cheap hybrid cars for mass production. The cost remains relatively high for hybrid technology, despite it being on the road since 1997 and improved technology. Vehicle weight continues to be one of the roadblocks to cheap hybrid cars, and with more people believing in the technology, they still want roomier cars with power consistent with conventional gas and diesel engines.

hybrid car graphic

Honda was reportedly aspiring to release cheap hybrid cars in a version of its Fit, which would sell for under $12,000. However, the gasoline version gets respectful mileage and considered a compact vehicle, which may not be conducive to increased sales in the market for those who typically drive subcompacts. The cost would be less than $2,000 more than the conventional version of the vehicle while offering slightly higher fuel economy.

As demand for hybrid vehicles continues to grow, especially in markets with extremely high gas prices, more companies are dedicating more of their resources on developing cheap hybrid cars. Many consumers also see hybrid technology as more than a status symbol or as a means of helping the environment.

Vehicle Cost Offsets Fuel Cost Savings

One of the sticking points in marketing hybrid vehicles is the fact that the price of the vehicles, along with increased insurance rates and service, was offsetting the benefits of higher fuel economy. By developing cheap hybrid cars, a company can attract the consumers that not only want to eliminate air pollution, but also want to reduce the ownership costs over the life of the vehicle.

Many of the younger drivers would welcome the opportunity to do their part for the environment but cant afford to buy most of the current crop of available cars. With the introduction of cheap hybrid cars the overall costs of a hybrid can bring it into line with non-hybrid vehicles that are demonstrating vastly improved gas mileage.

The technology is in place for hybrid vehicle operation and many claim that cheap hybrid cars are in the future. As newer technology is developed to provide a seamless transition from gas to electric motors in the vehicles, production costs will decline, accompanied by the overall costs.

However, as consumers show reluctance to give up the luxury of the larger vehicles to which they become accustomed, the market for cheap hybrid cars that are currently considerably smaller, may not be what companies need to benefit from their development.

Hybrid Car Price – Retail hybrid car prices (MSRP) are decided by the car makers and advised to the car dealers to be the base hybrid car price guide in dealing with public sale. Dealers providing fleet sales to corporate buyers have also the invoice of hybrid car price, or that amount paid by the dealers to the automakers, better used for wholesale purchases being made from the dealers.

While these two serve as guides for the car buyer, hybrid car prices may increase due to additional costs for non-standard features or add-ons to the vehicles. There are also charges for delivery to move the vehicles to the final destination where buyer is situated. Thereafter, sales taxes, marketing costs, registration costs and other costs may be added by the dealership over and above the MSRP or invoice hybrid car price.

Hybrid Car Price Ranges

As of this writing, at the bottom rung is the Toyota Prius, most reasonably priced at suggested retail of $22,175, exclusive of tax incentives that come along with purchases of hybrid, environmentally-friendly units. At the high end of the spectrum will be the 2007 Honda Accord Hybrid 4-wheel drive four-door sedan, at around $31,000. Both these hybrid car prices do not include delivery or destination pricing.

The Array of Hybrid Car Prices

In between the Prius and the Accord, the Camry Hybrid car price from Toyota is priced at around $26,000. The Saturn Aura Green Line Hybrid car price starts at $22,695, a highly recommended purchase by many hybrid enthusiasts. The Honda Hybrid FWD four door sedan starts at $22,600 exclusive of destination costs.

To give you a gauge on SUVs, the Mercury Mariner 2008 Hybrid four-wheel drive SUV starts at the bottom with $27,515, followed by the Ford Escape Hybrid 4FD SUV at $27.250. Packed and loaded with all amenities you can ask for, the 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid car price $32,500.

Hybrid Car Price Indicators

The brand name comes with the package. With such prestigious car makers as Toyota, Honda, Ford, Saturn, Mercury, Volkswagen, Mercedes, the name comes at a premium. Brand name notwithstanding, the full array of features and accessories not included in standard units also impact on the final hybrid car price you are purchasing.

Hybrid car prices are definitely higher than for conventional models. That’s because the manufacturer requires more resources to produce the hybrids with their added valuable features – these all add up to the cost. It is envisioned, though, that the fuel savings from hybrids car price will more than compensate for the usually higher purchase price compared to pure fossil-fuel models.

To give you an idea, take the Honda Accord as an example. While a value-packaged 4-door Accord Sedan can fetch for as low as $19,450, the Hybrid Accord’s price is almost twice higher at more than $31,000. While Accord’s special edition sedans and coupes range from $23,350 to $23,450, these prices are still a far cry from hybrid car prices. Only the EX-L four-wheel drive 2-door Accord Coupe comes close at $27,500.

The price differences among Civic models are somewhat more manageable and saleable. Take a 4-door sedan Civic EX priced at $19,510 add a hybrid system and you’re $22,500 poorer. But the price difference, at least, is not all that much.
