All of an unexpected, when things are rolling smoothly, the company slammed the brakes on the plan. There are rumor in the market that 2009 will be the beginning before people can see Hyundai hybrid vehicles on the market. The cause cited for this is the increasing rate of the South Korea’s currency ‘WON’. Principally, there was a global recession in the world along with economic chaos that has slowed down the sales of automotives. Add to that the falling rate of the $ (United State’s Dollar). This means that Korean vehicles sold in the United State will not carry the producers their actual value in WONs. Besides that, there are some problems for the company at the highest level.

In recent times, Hyundai Motor’s chairman was charged with misuse of funds to the tune of $136 million. This misappropriated sum of money was accustomed to generate political sludge fund. According to newspaper information, Hyundai Motor was required to delay important projects as a result of this problem. Amongst the important projects that must be delayed is the construction of Kia’s first plant in the United States and of course the development of hybrid cars too.
