Among the sources of power for hybrid automobiles there are gasoline or diesel fuel, on board or outboard RESS (rechargeable energy storage systems), compressed or liquid natural gas, hydrogen, solar, wind, wood, coal or other solid combustibles. Hybrid automobiles’ term is used most frequently to refer to HEVs (hybrid electric vehicles) in which an ICE or internal combustion engine is combined with one or more electric motors.

As pointed out in the lines above, hybrid automobiles range is more extended than the category of conventional cars. Electric bicycles and mopeds make the most relevant of samples here. These are the rather basic forms of hybrid automobiles.  They combine the power from an electric motor or ICE with the power of the rider’s muscles. The heavy hybrid covers the industrial or supply vehicles like hydraulic machines, ships, locomotive, buses, and so on. Usually, this term of hybrid automobiles is used to refer to HEVs.

The following types of automotives of this category includes: Toyota Prius, Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Honda Insight, Honda Civic Hybrid, AHS2 (Chevy Tahoe, Chevy Silverado, GMX Yukon, Saturn Vue, and Cadillac Escalade), and many more.

The beginnings of the beginnings of the hybrid automobile date back to the late 1900s when David Arthurs, invented the braking regenerative hybrid. Besides the hybrid automobiles as mentioned above—uses two or more different propulsion devices, there are also vehicles which use distinct sources of energy or input types but only one engine. These are also considered by some people to be similar to the hybrid car. In fact, vehicles with double or multiple energy sources are dual mode automotive systems of the trolley type.

Nowadays more and more people decide to buy hybrid automobiles. There are many advantages: not just save money on fuel, but you also can to do something for the environment and humankind. There is a triple combination of factors that make the design of a hybrid car so appropriate for recent times: first, the kinetic energy wasted by braking is recuperated and reused, secondly, there is the combination gas-electricity, and thirdly, the battery comes with a high storage capacity.
