The GMC Yukon Hybrid and the Chevy Tahoe Hybrid – its counterpart are the first two cars that adjust the futuristic two mode hybrid powerstation that has been in cooperation developed by GM, Daimler Chrysler, and BMW. The GMC Yukon Hybrid presents a new range of larger vehicles that are much more efficient and greener than the conventional vehicles. The heart of the GMC Yukon Hybrid’s powertrain consists of GM’s six liter V8 engine Vortec that swanks cylinder deactivation technology. This vehicle’s engine can turn off 4 of its 8 cylinders when not required extra power, and this translates into fuel saving. Furthermore, you will observe that there is a 200 volt battery when you take a close look underneath the second row seats.

GMC Yukon Hybrid boasts itself as a two mode hybrid (with two electric motors) because this vehicle can run in two different modes depending on the situation. This makes the vehicle can reach at height efficiency. This powertrain will imitate other hybrids during low impact and low speed driving. If possible, it turns off the V8 engine in order to draw power from either one or both the electric motors. When driving on the highway the other mode is usually useful, when either one or both the electric motors power concurrently with the V8 engine to present a improve in power.

To keep the engine running at the most useful rotation per minute that authorizes low fuel usage, at the heart of the system lays a two mode transmission. Essentially it plays a balancing act between the V8 engine and the electric motors. The two mode transmission system is also in charge to guarantee the changes between the two modes almost faultless. Really, these technologies very useful. One will be satisfied with the 40% enhancement in efficiency while driving in the city and the other can easily detect a 25% enhancement over the gas powered cousin of the Yukon Hybrid. GMC Yukon Hybrid two wheel drive model can reach 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway.

Amazingly, the fuel economy of this huge hybrid SUV is comparable with 4 cylinders Toyota Camry. Beside has a great job to distribute fuel efficiency, the GMC Yukon Hybrid also delivers all the capability and power one expects from a full size SUV. Daring of 332 horsepower and available in 2 or 4 wheel drive models, Yukon Hybrid can haul up to 6000 pounds. This vehicle can compared to almost all trail rated pickup trucks and can drive through hard road conditions and off road with amazing traction and stability. Not same with many large size vehicles that has a rigid feel; this vehicle offers the driver with a smooth and comfy ride. Yukon Hybrid also provides you to accommodate up to 8 passengers because it has sufficient space. Spaced out from this, there are a lot of extra features that the GMC Yukon Hybrid swanks of.

The 8th-Best Selling Hybrid: GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrids But the GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrids aren’t just pale imitations of the Escalade. The Tahoe Hybrid was named the 2008 Green Car of the Year by the Green Car Journal, giving it some green street-cred. Like the Escalade Hybrid, the GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrids’ size prevents them from getting great fuel economy, but for people who need to haul lots of people or tow heavy loads, the extra mpg, not matter how small, is a big benefit.

The 9th-Best Selling Hybrid: Lexus LS 600h

Of course, there are plenty of car buyers who want a luxury hybrid without having to drive a large SUV like the Escalade. 980 people purchased the Lexus LS600h, the largest and most luxurious hybrid car produced by Toyota Motor Corp., Lexus’ parent company, in 2008.

With a manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) that starts above $100,000, the Lexus LS600h obviously isn’t for people who are looking to save a little cash on gas. In fact, the LS600h only gets an EPA-estimated 22 MPG on the highway and 20 MPG in the city. The LS600h is an interesting hybrid because the electric motor not only can power the car at slow speeds to save gas, it can also provide a power boost to the gas engine. That makes the Lexus LS600h the hybrid of choice for well-heeled buyers looking to add a little thrill to their green driving.

The 10th-Best Selling Hybrid: Escalade Hybrid

As a MVP winner of Super Bowl XLIII, Santonio Holmes is allowed to choose any car from Cadillac’s line-up, and he choose the Cadillac Escalade Hybrid.

In 2008, 801 purchasers opted for the car that proves ‘eco-drive’ does not mean you have to sacrifice performance. The Escalade Hybrid combines a V-8 engine, high-tech interior features, seating for up to eight passengers, and towing ability with a 25 percent improvement in fuel economy compared to the standard Escalade. While the Escalade Hybrid’s size prevents it from getting the same fuel economy as smaller hybrids, it allows purchasers who want lots of luxury, space and utility, to make a little greener choice.
