Thankfulness to people realizing the benefits of hybrid cars, it was not long before hybrid trucks to complete their exterior. People have recognized the value of using hybrid vehicles and they have seen the quantity of fuel savings one can get by using hybrid cars, so it hop that the hybrid trucks would follow the equivalent method as hybrid SUV’s. General Motors, with their GMC Sierra Hybrid pickup and Chevy Silverado Hybrid, initiates of this trend by introducing of hybrid trucks. The launch of these hybrid trucks was not many publicized and the numbers produced too were low. The fuel economies presented by these hybrid trucks were not attraction shouting about, just 2 mpg.

As silently as when they had been introduced these hybrid trucks in 2004, the production of these trucks dropped in 2006. Realizing the prospective of such trucks, General Motors has ongoing planning it once more. Nowadays they are the only one (as automaker) in United State who are planning to manufacture full size hybrid pickups that have a capacity more than 20 mpg. A new and superior hybrid technology is being used that will allow the GMC Sierra hybrid stand up heads and shoulders above the other competitor in this category which available in the market. The GMC Sierra Hybrid, as a new avatar, will have a 25% improvement over its fuel sibling as far as mileage is concerned and GMC Sierra Hybrid will also offers 40% higher fuel economy.

This hybrid system that is being jointly developed between General Motors, Daimler, and BMW will permit all electric and gas free driving at low speeds. 4 of its 8 cylinders of Sierra Hybrid will remain turned off under these conditions. This hybrid pickup truck will boast a V8 engine 6 liter with 332 hp. The most important or the key idea is to offer greatest fuel savings to the drivers by providing them savings in gasoline when driving at highway speeds. Keep these factors in mind, GMC Sierra Hybrid is being designed to provided maximum fuel efficiency even when Sierra Hybrid is fully loaded or even when it is towing a trailer. However, there is a slight deficit as far as the towing capabilities is concerned.

The GMC Sierra Hybrid can only haul 6,100 pounds while certain conventional – gas powered Sierras can simply haul up to 10,500 pounds. There is also a sacrifice in room behind the back row with in the cabin space being forfeited to make way for a 300 volt nickel metal hybride battery. Most trucks lover will not mind trading this space in barter for the fuel efficiency this hybrid truck provides along with the smooth ride it offers. To augment thoroughfare driving smoothness, especially on choppy and rough road surfaces, a modern hydraulic mount has been introduced which is located on the sie of the chassis where the passenger sits. The GMC Sierra Hybrid boasts of superior aerodynamics and the 300 volt AC (air conditioning) compressor that runs off electricity cools the customers section even when the gas engine is switch off. There are many other features that guarantee that this hybrid pickup truck will find success that evaded its forerunner.

Hybrid vehicles are an alternative solution to creating an environmentally friendly vehicle. This occurs because the combination of technology supported hybrid electric cars and fuel. Of course this makes hybrid vehicles help the process of reducing the impact of the greenhouse effect and global warming.

Hybrid vehicles are usually classified as mild hybrids, full hybrids, plug-in hybrids and muscle hybrids

Here is a brief explanation about the types of hybrid vehicles.

Mild Hybrids

One example of the type of mild hybrids are the 2007 Saturn Vue Green Line and 2005 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid. The powered engines of mild hybrids can be turned off while the vehicle brakes, coasts, or stops, and after that can restarted quickly.

Full Hybrids

Full hybrids are hybrid vehicles that can run on electric motor only at slow speeds (traffic, backing up). However, when the vehicle is driven at speeds over 20 mph, the engine this car will use gasoline engines as the main source of energy, with an electric motor will work when needed. Lexus, Toyota, and Ford hybrids are examples of full hybrid models.

Plug-In Hybrids

Plug-in hybrid cars are vehicles that use rechargeable electric batteries as the first energy source (to a distance of 30-200 miles, depending on the model) before the vehicle using a gasoline-powered engines. In 2008 China has launched its first production plug-in hybrid cars. In the near future several automakers plan to produce PHEVs.

Muscles Hybrids

Lexus RX400h and Toyota Highlander Hybrid is an example of muscle hybrids. Muscle cars hybrids are models that provide little economic and environmental benefits compared with other hybrid offerings.

Choosing

Each hybrid cars are created with different functions. Muscle hybrid technology for different purposes when compared with the mild, full, or plug-in hybrids. Environmental impact, fuel efficiency, price, performance and range significantly.

Nowadays many automakers have shown a great attention to the hybrid car technology’s development and implementation. One of the automaker is Chevrolet. Currently Chevrolet provides the Silverado hybrid – a hybrid trucks – the first production model of Chevrolet Company. Moreover, the company has plans for a various new hybrid models in latest years, such as Tahoe, Suburban, Malibu, or Saturn’s VUE hybrid SUV. Chevrolet also expanded with a fleet of transit buses powered by their Allison Electric Drive Transmission system at the municipal level – for King Country, Washington. That fleet will save more than 750,000 gallons of gasoline a year in King Country, over the non hybrid it replaced.

Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid

Chevrolet has introduced to the public its first full size hybrid truck, the Chevy Silverado Hybrid and GMC Sierra Hybrid (its sister model) to attract the attention of contractors. The 2005 gasoline electric model will be in automobile market in fall of 2004, and this vehicle – with a Vortec V-8 engine – can produce 295 hp and 335 lb-ft of torque.

Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid

Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid is the most impressive models of Chevy, the large SUV, available in 2007. The GMC Yukon Hybrid and the Chevrolet Tahoe hybrid will both receive a combination of the hybrid technology of Chevy. The gasoline electric upgrades will augment fuel economy about 30 percent in the large hybrid SUVs and similarly efficient trucks are available in 2008.

Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid

The Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid mid-sized sedan was scheduled for production in early 2007 and this model available for retail shortly thereafter.

Chevrolet Equinox Hybrid

The Chevrolet Equinox Hybrid shares a hybrid system similar to the Tahoe Hybrid, which is expected to increase the fuel economy about 30 percent from the Chevy’s Hybrid Technology. This Chevy should be available as hybrid model in 2005 for the 2006 model year.
