Tokyo – Honda Motor Co., Thursday 5 February 2009 introduced the Honda Insight, the cheapest hybrid car. Insight is the cheapest hybrid car in the market.

Insight, the cheapest hybrid, starting at 1.89 million yen ($21,000) in the Japanese market, The Insight goes on sale in April in the U.S. (under $20,000), and March in Europe.

Honda’s Management recognizes is now at a difficult time for selling cars. Norio Ano, who oversees auto development at Honda, said “If the Insight had gone on sale a half year earlier, it would have been such a sure hot-seller,”

The big appeal of the Insight, a five-door hatchback, is its pricing.

The price was cheaper than Toyota Motor Corp.’s Prius, the top selling hybrid. Prius is valued at around 2.3 million yen in Japan and U.S. $ 22,000 in the U.S. market.

“Price to be an important factor when we make a hybrid car to the international market,” said Honda President Takeo Fukui. And Honda makes the cheapest hybrid car.

The strength of the Insight is the value it brings because of its pricing. And as the cheapest hybrid, Honda may take over the hybrid car market.

In addition to developing gas efficient vehicles, the push is on to produce cheap hybrid cars for mass production. The cost remains relatively high for hybrid technology, despite it being on the road since 1997 and improved technology. Vehicle weight continues to be one of the roadblocks to cheap hybrid cars, and with more people believing in the technology, they still want roomier cars with power consistent with conventional gas and diesel engines.

hybrid car graphic

Honda was reportedly aspiring to release cheap hybrid cars in a version of its Fit, which would sell for under $12,000. However, the gasoline version gets respectful mileage and considered a compact vehicle, which may not be conducive to increased sales in the market for those who typically drive subcompacts. The cost would be less than $2,000 more than the conventional version of the vehicle while offering slightly higher fuel economy.

As demand for hybrid vehicles continues to grow, especially in markets with extremely high gas prices, more companies are dedicating more of their resources on developing cheap hybrid cars. Many consumers also see hybrid technology as more than a status symbol or as a means of helping the environment.

Vehicle Cost Offsets Fuel Cost Savings

One of the sticking points in marketing hybrid vehicles is the fact that the price of the vehicles, along with increased insurance rates and service, was offsetting the benefits of higher fuel economy. By developing cheap hybrid cars, a company can attract the consumers that not only want to eliminate air pollution, but also want to reduce the ownership costs over the life of the vehicle.

Many of the younger drivers would welcome the opportunity to do their part for the environment but cant afford to buy most of the current crop of available cars. With the introduction of cheap hybrid cars the overall costs of a hybrid can bring it into line with non-hybrid vehicles that are demonstrating vastly improved gas mileage.

The technology is in place for hybrid vehicle operation and many claim that cheap hybrid cars are in the future. As newer technology is developed to provide a seamless transition from gas to electric motors in the vehicles, production costs will decline, accompanied by the overall costs.

However, as consumers show reluctance to give up the luxury of the larger vehicles to which they become accustomed, the market for cheap hybrid cars that are currently considerably smaller, may not be what companies need to benefit from their development.

Honda might not entirely satisfy with its new product, and by 2010 there will be a hybrid that will make it much more economically and become cheaper hybrid in the North American market.

The 2010 Fit Hybrid mechanically very similar with Honda Insight, take an engine to 1.3 liters of gasoline and a set of lithium-ion batteries. Probably will not boast a great pace, but a consumer be around 80 mpg to compensate a possible lack of emotion.

Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, and other Latin America received in their markets to the new Honda Fit. And it is very positive; as this compact car introduced the Japanese hi-tech. Honda Fit Hybrid distinctive and commendable gearbox is CVT, a totally fantastic technology developed by Honda for nearly 2 decades of pure research and development.

The Honda Fit Hybrid is a compact car for five passengers. Its interior is versatile, since the rear seats can rebates leaving a cargo space of 1.7 m long, whereas if it rejects the front seat passenger an object can be charged up to 2.4 m long.

In Japan Honda Fit Hybrid was the best selling car. With a low consumption and highly efficient engine of 2 spark plugs per cylinder makes it ideal as an urban car. The Fit has several elements of active and passive safety.

But CVT gearbox is the most important technological in Hybrid Fit Hybrid. The system CVT transmission means that the marches have not changed from which it is continuously variable. Its almost conical rollers permanently attached to each other with a high degree of friction. The engineers at Honda have developed a new alloy smelting furnaces and up to a particularly appropriate lubricant.
